London Budget Travel Tip!

The Sterling pound has weakened considerably due to fears of Brexit. But that is good news for everyone else – it means we get to travel to the UK for cheap! Skyscanner recently shared 5 ways you save when travelling in London. Check it out here!

Here are some of our own tips:

1. Stick to the tube and buses!

London is extremely well served by public transport. Most attractions or places of interest can be reached by the Tube. Simply get yourself an Oyster Card (their version of our EZ-Link) and you can easily ride on the buses and trains. What’s better, there are daily caps for the fares, so if you’re visiting several places in a day, it’ll probably save you some money!

London Bus, the Original.
Hop onto a London (Double Decker) bus for a cheap and comfortable tour of London!

2. Don’t Drive

Well, kind of related to the first, but there’s enough reasons for it to be listed as #2. First, parking is usually very expensive. A full day parking in a hotel in Greater London could cost you up to £50. That’s enough to cover a day’s meal! Second, there’s a congestion zone right in central London – it’s like Singapore’s ERP, only that you pay in Pounds!

3. Join a Free Walking Tour

One of the best ways to explore a city, join a Free Walking Tour! The SANDEMAN’s Free Walking Tour is extremely informative and it takes you right through some of the most famous places in London! Listen to the stories of the 6 wives of Henry VIII, and how a drunk, homeless man managed to sneak into the Buckingham Palace!

And oh, did you ever notice the street signs in London read “Westminster” and not “London”?

The "Daigon Alley" of Harry Potter.
The “Daigon Alley” in Harry Potter was an exact replica of this street. The producers had originally wanted to film here, but the streets were too narrow to accommodate the equipment. Hence, an exact replica was created in the studios.

The tour starts at Convent Garden Piazza, right in front of the Apple Store. Although the tour is free, please know that the tour guides are also not paid – they work for tips. If you’ve had a great time, please tip your guide!

4. Visit a Museum – For Free!

Yes, most museums are free to visit! I’m not a huge fan of museums, but if you’re a museum kind of person, be sure to check them out! There’s the Natural History Museum, Science Museum (for the Engineer in you), and many more!

Google is giving 2GB of free storage on Google Drive

Good news! Google is giving away 2GB worth of storage space on Google Drive because of Safer Internet Day! All you need to do is to do a security check for your account that you’re set!

Google Drive
The security check is very quick and easy: simply verify your backup email address, any recent changes to your personal particulars, permissions granted to apps and your security question. Once you’re done, the 2GB will be yours! Apparently, if you did your check last year, the 2GB awarded to you previously can be stacked with this year’s, so it’s a total of 4GB!If you ask me, I’m going to grab all the free cloud storage I can get. It is the new way to share files and backups!

Get your free 2GB now!

a 5 minute crash course on Seoul

Ok, maybe 10. or 15. Depending on how quickly you read. Anyway, we believe this post will serve as a good base for those doing research on Seoul.

My second trip to Seoul in 2 years; I don’t normally visit a holiday destination twice within such a short span. The good news is, having these 2 trips so close apart gives me an excellent chance to revisit what I did in the previous – and here’s what I have to say.

P.S. This post is specially dedicated to you, GZ. Have fun in Korea!

It started in Grampians. On our bouldering trip in September 2015 (read the excellent trip summary at Still Sauce. He has an awesome gallery, too!), we stayed at a very uniquely themed place called “Old Dadswell Town”. Mad Max, as he would like to call himself, runs the place with his wife Jenny. I didn’t get to meet both my grand fathers, but the ever friendly and welcoming Max comes pretty close to me having one. “Don’t follow the path. Think out of the box.” We sure did!
